I booked my first lesson at 26, way later than most people. I was convinced I was going to be the worst driver Marcus had ever taught. He sent me a voice note before the first lesson saying "everyone feels exactly like you do right now." That was it — I was sold. Twelve lessons later, I passed with three minors. My hands barely shook at all.

Failed my first test on a serious fault — hesitation at a crossroads that Priya later told me was a known problem spot on the Leeds test route. She knew every tricky junction on that route. We drilled the exact scenarios I'd messed up. Second test: completely different experience. I actually enjoyed parts of it, which I never thought I'd say.

Amara is patient in a completely non-patronising way — she treats you like an adult who just hasn't done this particular thing before.
